Africa Project, Inc.

Mission:
Africa Project, Inc. enables Africans to become self-reliant by providing resources necessary for individual and collective development. We support initiatives that invest in education, generate sustainable income, bolster infrastructure, and celebrate culture and identity.
We accomplish our mission using a three-pronged approach:
We enlist Triangle North Carolina Area residents to financially support education and community development projects in African communities;
We act as a local resource center dedicated to facilitating the integration of African immigrants into the Triangle Area; and
We raise awareness of African life and stories by providing educational outreach programs and foreign service-learning volunteer opportunities in African countries.

Vision:
Our vision is to provide opportunities and an environment in which individuals can explore and realize their full potentials in life. We strive to instill in the people we empower, the culture of self-reliance and support them to bring development and positive changes in their lives as well as in the lives of the members of their community. We believe Africa needs partners in development, not charity.

WE ARE A UNIQUE ORGANIZATION:
Since founding, Africa Project, Inc., staff and volunteers have worked diligently to build the organization and promote its mission. We rely heavily on individual support from our supporters, donors and volunteers. Our unique approach to addressing Africas many development challenges is that, we promote empowerment, not charity. It is our belief that, if given the opportunity, every human being has a potential to succeed in life. Therefore, it is of benefit to African immigrants and countries to collaborate partner or cooperate with others outside the continent in their endeavor to pursue development. It is also imperative that African people focus on human development in terms of education, health, culture and social enterprise as opposed to charity and waiting for handouts.

LOCAL PROGRAMS:
Locally, we serve as a community resource center on Africa and African immigrants providing the following services to the residents of the Triangle Area of North Carolina:
Employment resources in form of job search, resume writing services for those eligible to work in America
Refugee and asylee referral support
Acculturation programs to help orientate and integrate African immigrants in the area Community outreach programs reaching out and educating local communities, college and high school students about African countries, people, culture and current affairs
Information resource center on local and national resources
Basic training in computer applications
Basic English language tutoring
Language translations for selected African languages

AFRICA EDUCATION PROGRAM:
Our education program focuses on promotion of primary, secondary and higher education. We identify talented, brilliant, impoverished, orphans, refugees and former child soldiers and match them with sponsors who commit to paying their educational expenses so that they can go to school. We have also created a scholarship fund to benefit this program. To be eligible, a student has to identify with at least one of the above category of focus areas. Other aspects of our educational program include providing internship, volunteer and student exchange opportunities for students in America and African Universities so that they can gain experience and learn from each other. Our program also provides donated educational resources like textbooks, computers and other resources to local schools and institutions in Africa. We also plan to build schools in different African countries with special focus on training in science, technology and entrepreneurship. This program is mostly funded through our Africa Education Fund program.

CULTURAL PROGRAM:
Africa Project, Inc., believes that culture and tradition are vital elements of human identity. Great nations, societies and civilizations have flourished because they have integrated culture and tradition as important aspects of their lives and identity. We promote culture by organizing cultural events, cultural awareness programs and partnering with cultural groups to promote what they do. We also match our interns and volunteers interested in culture and anthropology to work with us as well as with community-based organizations in Africa that focus on cultural programs.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:
Our goal is to promote self-reliance and we do this by promoting development programs in rural Africa. We believe that every human has potentials to do well and to develop. African immigrants communities are faced with numerous challenges as they strive to establish themselves as new citizens in America. To make this happen, we promote empowerment programs that help make this transition possible. In Africa, we partner with development organizations and institutions helping them achieve their goals. We also promote empowerment through provision of resources that help rural farmers, youth, individuals and organized community groups develop based on their identified needs. Africa Project, Inc., recruits interns and volunteers who are skilled in development, farming skills and experts in different fields to work with local farmers groups as well as development projects achieve their goals. We partner with local and international institutions that promote development in Africa and help them reach out to those in need of their services.

Africa Project has launched a massive education campaign with pilot programs in Uganda and a Liberia where donors can choose to sponsor a student or a number of students to primary, secondary, technical school or even at a local university. We believe that education is central in personal, professional and the national development of a nation. African children must be educated so they will be the ones who will develop their countries. In this line, we have introduced the Africa Education Fund, a unique funding program that raises funds used to promote education through excellence scholarships, grants, technology, books, educational resources and other educational related expenses. Individuals, private and public foundations as well as businesses are our target donors and sponsors. Please, contact us for details if you would like to donate or sponsor this program. Donations are tax deductible in the USA.
